Who Am I?

What is it that fuels each and every one of us in this world? For me, it is Nature.

I worked for many years as a nature reserve warden for the government conservation body. Working within the confines of small and isolated nature reserves has convinced me that a this is not a successful long-term solution to the degradation of the countryside and loss of habitats and species, which has been occurring increasingly frequently over the last few decades. This was why in the late 1990’s I helped formulate a new strategy for the way in which we consider the needs of wildlife and people in the countryside, and became a founder member of the Great Fen landscape project in Cambridgeshire. Although there are now many wide-scale ‘re-wilding’ schemes, Great Fen was one of the first attempts to move away from the idea that nature should be confined to ‘protected sites’ and look instead at a ‘whole landscape’ approach.

On this site you can find ways to access my book about this ‘The Great Fen – a Journey through Time’.

Its easy to overlook the fact that the ’natural world’ includes us humans and so I am keen to develop ways to help people to be more aware of the wildlife around us. You can find some videos here to help identify wildlife which is easy to find near to home.
